Why be sad, get glad!

My latest creation, I used the Text Collage which makes excellent wallpapers, South Park Character Creator and Pocket Emo, not recommendeed for kids but is really funny. Generators look like another way for people to personalize their online experience.

RSS and Newsreaders oh my!!!

I always wondered about these icons, one more mistery has been solved in my life. This has been the most educational exercise so far. I created my bloglines acount which was simple and fast. I had never heard of RSS feeds before this challenge and I’m surprised since I have spotted the icons in most of the web pages I visit but never bothered to click on them to find out. RSS feeds and newsreaders seem to collect inomration and any updates on pages of interest to the user. I used my account to collect data from a variety of sources like concert updates, library news, fellow web challenge participants and daily news of my liking. This tools and technology save people time and make navigating online much easier. Feedster also looks like a good rss source.
A good use that could come out of the library system using this features is having a connection to library staff that goes beyond email communication. If it has not been implemented already it would be a nice way to keep customers updated on the activities going on in the library without them leaving the comfort of their homes.
If anyone is interested here are my public blogline subscriptions: http://www.bloglines.com/public/blacklight

Technologically "challenged"

Greetings, For my post on technology I wondered about 10 minutes what to write about but it just seemed hopeless. I keep thinking about a movie I want to watch and it’s finally out. And so it came to be that I want to disccuss dvd’s and movie formats. Lately in my life I have come across various dvd titles and library materials that just can’t quite have a long life span. Is this related to technology? Of course it is, my technologically advanced dvd’s and cd’s scratch too easily. Cd’s are very convenient for storaging data and music but the data can be lost just as easily if the cd gets scratched or damaged.
Even though we can try to be very careful when handling cd’s or dvd’s they are just bound to get damaged at one point. I wonder if there is a new technology coming out like the mini cd’s but with bigger capacity.
Moving on to dvd formats, I had a problem with a new dvd I bought full of music videos of a band that shall remain nameless, with all the excitement I placed the dvd on the ps2. it came quite clear after the second video that something was wrong, my first assumption was that I had broken my brother’s ps2. after further inspection I found out that my dvd had a different region and that a simple dvd player could not play properly.

Flickr fun

Week 3 exercises, I'm sorry to say I fell behind on my posts but there were just other priorities in my agenda. Recap: Sept 1 - explored Flickr Sept 4 - Flickr mashups & Third Party sites Sept 6 - blog post about any technology of interest to me I found flickr to be a quite a useful tool for someone who wants to play around with images but to me its capabilities are very limited. It seems like a cut and paste version of Photoshop, Illustrator and other applications. My new photo is a result of using one of flickr's mashups, "Framer."

Lifelong Learning?...

And here I was sad that my days of education were over. Life is just a constant learning process, trial and error. As long as there's fewer errors i do not mind learning. The 7 1/2 habits slide show reminded me of a management class i took in college but the professor never mentioned habit # 7 1/2. The easiest habit for me is:Using technology to my advantage - Ever since I figured out I had horrible handwriting I opted to always learn and learn the new and latest software I came upon. The hardest habit has to be:Viewing problems as a challenge - First I’ll cry and suffer for the first 30 minutes and then I can think clearly and realize that not all is lost except for my confidence in being capable (which I am) of performing well on certain tasks, such as oral presentations. In general I had already been introduced to this learning plan and ever since I have been in every way applied it to everyday situations. I think if we all applied this at our libraries we would all be less intimidated by let's say computers or angry cutomers.

Ready Get Set...2.0

May great inspiration come in due time to this empty blog that one day shall be proof of my great musings as a library worm.
